Welcome to the website of the 3 year ESRC-funded project "A rite of passage?: National Citizen Service and the Geographies of Youth Citizenship" led by Dr Sarah Mills, Department of Geography, Loughborough University.
This project examines the state's motivations behind, the third sector's engagement with, and young people's experiences of, National Citizen Service (NCS).
Using NCS as a case-study, and positioning this scheme within the historical context of youth citizenship development, the project aims to contribute to debates on youth, volunteering, citizenship, and informal education.
More information on the project, advisory group and relevant outputs is available via the above page tabs, or feel free to get in touch with any enquiries. The project is funded by an ESRC FRL award (ES/L009315/1) held between October 2014 - September 2017.
